herb sennett in the news
Honoring a war heroHerb Sennett has been a volunteer for the South Florida Fair Grounds organization since 2020. His primary duties include serving as the curator for the Palm Beach County Military Museum, located on the Fair Grounds inside the Bink Museum.
This photograph was made at the opening of a new exhibit for the museum showcasing artifacts from the life of Burton M. Reynolds, the father of the actor Burt Reynolds. From 1947 to 1995, Burton owned a ranch in northern Palm Beach County and served the county in numerous ways. His most memorable experience was serving as the chief of police in the city of Riviera Beach, must north of West Palm Beach. He is memorialized in the museum for his military experience in the United States Army. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day+2 and proceeded to move with his Artillery Brigade from the beach to the outskirts of Berlin, Germany. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge as well as several other battles and campaigns. After the surrender of the German Army in 1945, he and the brigade walked from Berlin to the Netherlands where they boarded a ship to England and then to the United States. It was Dr. Sennett's honor to build the tribute to Lt. Burton Reynolds as a major feature of the Yester Year Village's Military Museum. |
