Making pictures interesting

I know that I'm not a world-renown photographer, but I've been having a ball the last several years with my Sony Alpha camera that I bought in 2017. I'm not there, yet, as you can tell by the picture above. I wasn't really sure just what I was trying to focus on or just what was the "subject" of the shot. I believe that I wanted an off-center shot of the waterfall. But, I needed to use my 300mm telephoto to get closer to the waterfall and frame it better in the picture aside the peak to the left. So, below is another picture I took at the same time standing further back from the edge of the cliff and attempting to get a little more interest into the frame.

I felt that this shot was much more interesting that the earlier. By placing some sort of "action" in the frame, I believe it was a bit more picturesque. Perhaps it developed into a more interesting shot.
​These pictures were taken from atop of the mountains in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. That place is a gold-mine for any photographer.  Below is another shot from that same mountain but in a different direction.
